Ellsworth in Cambridgeshire!!!!
Well... Where do I start? I remember when I was a kid seeing my dad ride the place and totally crapping myself at the size of the jumps, my pulse must have been 200 bpm and all I was doing was spectating! Now I'm a grown lad, the place is not only a kids dream it's a mans as well!
It's one of them places that every time I pull through the gates I get that same feeling in my stomach, that feeling that can't be described in any other way than, what am I letting myself in for! The bike comes out and rain or shine it sticks to the mud like its play doh!
The variation of jumps is bang on what you need at a track, and from what I've seen in the motocross scene there isn't many tracks like it! Plenty for the beginners, novices like myself or the experts! I can't state one particular place on the track which is my favourite because it simply is faultless!
The whole place is spot on and I would highly recommend it to anyone (if you've got the bottle). Each time I've been there over the years the tracks been in 100% perfect condition, not a spot of mud out of line!
Slight variations in the track time to time with additional jumps being added, but all it does is make it well worth the journey!! I last went about a month ago, everyone I've met there has been nice people, the owners have something to be proud of! Keep up the good work!
RE: Elsworth - Comments / Feedback
I first visited Elsworth in 1994/95. I lived in Norfolk, therefore I was used to visiting tracks such as Hockham, Sculthorpe and Mildenhall. Needless to say I was blown away by the sheer size of it! The fact there were jumps half way up and down slopes was fascinating.
My dad, who, in his youth, raced in the same club as Dave Thorpe, told me all about the history of Elsworth; that it was used in various championship races. A track so impressive surely had to be used in this way! It was the first track I had witnessed that had a very tight start line. Once the racers were lined up, there was no way they were going to move their bikes back in order to get a run on their competitors!
It seemed to take an age for me and my fellow 80cc riders to complete a lap, let alone a race. The views around the track were simply unforgettable. It was as if the track went on for miles. Nevertheless, once the top classes took to the track, standing at the finish line to see them flying past was a sight to behold. There were members of the general public there watching too and that was something that had not yet caught on in Norfolk.
I remember it being a great event. Members from various clubs were in attendance and the lineups for each race dwarfed anything I had experienced before. I like to think of it as a special day for myself and many others. It was a privilege to visit the track, let alone race it.
