Whitby motocross club was formed in 2000/2001 following the demise of langbaurgh motocross club at glaisdale - egton banks track. The club stalwarts refused to call it a day and searched the area for a suitable venue gathering up support and a couple of ex members of the defunct teeside twinshock club.
Apart from the site we needed a sympathetic landowner and we found both with skelder banks and mr boddy! Many hours of hard work went into getting the first race away in 2001 and things got off to a flying start.
Drainage and the track were improved to enable racing in times of bad weather (luckily a couple of commitee members owned diggers), pretty soon entrys were full for every class of rider.
Improvements and hard work continued routinely until the club was invited to host a round of the maxxis british championship in 2005 which club president john noble personally embraced... and then the work really took off!! An access road was created and the men and machines toiled for weeks... then on the thursday/friday before the british round the rain man came to stay!!!! Saturdays weather was dry-ish but the land was wet!
We coped with that water with a lot of help from our freinds and in 2006 we hosted another round which was megga dry!! Luckily we have created a big pond for watering with.
This season sees the installation of a new improved watering system which will contribute to rider safety and comfort of spectators which are two subjects of great importance to us.
The commitee and the club is made up mainly of riders and ex-riders who enjoy and are dedicated to sport and give up large amounts of spare time to ensure its survival in the difficult days ahead.
